About the Book
The Middle Ages, or medieval period, is an era of European history that began with the fall of the Western Roman Empire in the 5th century, and merged into the Renaissance and the Age of Discovery in the 15th century. The medieval period is the middle period of the three traditional divisions in Western history, which are classical antiquity, the medieval period, and the modern period. The medieval period is then itself subdivided into the Early, High, and Late Middle Ages.

Famous Men of the Middle Ages John H Haaren A B Poland Books
This book is still an excellent book, but it is a revised edition to the original and this is NOT CLEAR from the information on the product. Several chapters on famous men in church history have been removed from the compilation in this edition. It is missing chapters on "Two Monks: Benedict and Gregory", "Gregory VII and Henry IV", and "St. Francis and St. Dominic". It is also missing the original preface, although this is just an explanation of the author's philosophy of history education and not vital to the content of the book. I wish I had known before ordering that certain chapters had been removed.Product details

Famous Men of the Middle Ages John H Haaren A B Poland Books Reviews
Concise and well put together
For a time period in history that has a lot of dry and boring information, my 2ns & 3rd grade students are really rnjoying this book
We are using it in our homeschool studies of the Middle Ages. So far it's great ) no complaints from mom or kids )
We use this book with the Tapestry of Grace Curriculum. A great read even outside of school.
Just a heads-up...This is NOT Greenleaf's Famous Men of the Middle Ages! It is a workbook that goes along with that title. Somehow I missed that and ended up with the workbook, when what I wanted was the reading guide.
That said, it looks like it could be a good reference, especially if you are building your own curriculum. For each section it has subcategories titled, Other Resources, Vocabulary, People and Places and For Discussion. We use TruthQuest History, so I think it will be redundant for us.
I read aloud a chapter or two each day from "Famous Men of the Middle Ages" to my homeschooled child as she was learning about the Middle Ages. It was a good suppliment to the curriculum. Written in story form, each chapter is only a few pages long, and gives an account of a person in history. This format gives more detail and is a bit more interesting than just reading a text book. Upon the completion of the Middle Ages unit study, my daughter took a 50 question test and remarked on several occasions, "Oh I remember, we read about that!" Due to that response I am looking to purchase something similar for the study of the Renaissance.
We've been using this book for our homeschool lessons. It has great info, but doesn't overwhelm my first & third grader with tons of detail. The kindle version is more difficult to use than the physical book bc the chapters aren't clearly separated. Your can't got to a specific chapter. You have to flip through page by page to find the chapter you want. That's pretty annoying when you are trying to keep young kids focused...
